Bootable cd that scans for invasions?

Hi all,

Does anyone make a bootable cd that can scan and fix
an unmounted hd for viruses and other invasions?
The best of all worlds would be a free iso download
but I will take/consider anything.

thanks,
charles.....

Not sure what you mean by unmounted, it's a term I've only seen used in
conjunction with a running os.
To answer your question, Avast forum talks about a Bart Avast CD. I've
never made one, but have made a Bart Winxp DVD. I think the Avast one
would do what you want as long as the hd is visible in the bios.
Many av programs allow for a scan at boot up. I would think such a scan
would be quite safe.

One of my assumptions is that in the process of starting an OS on a hd
a virus could hide from scanners. If one starts the os from the cd and
just scans the hd, there is no way the virus could hide from a process
like that. I'll look into the Bart Avast CD. I have come across viruses
in the past that were smart enough to prevent detection and removal
from the standard/popular antivirus programs.

Perfectly true of course.
