Usually, what you're trying to explain is a question of semantics, both new
and old defintions of the word "boot".
Booting Windows, regarding XP, is on the partition where windows folder is
located. This, MS chose, is called the boot partition. In XP, the
partition where the actual boot files are located for initiating the
operating system, is always the "C:/" partition. This, MS chose, is called
the system partition. They may be both one and the same if windows was
installed in the "C:/" partition.
Formerly, even though previous windows operating systems also had the
ability to install the windows folder and such in an alternate partition,
the "C:/" partition was still called the boot partition. Technically, this
is accurate as the boot files are initiated in sequence from the bios
handover. This is the actual "boot" process.
Thus, we have a question of sematics as a result between the old and new
defintions as defined by Microsoft Corporation for boot partition and system
partition regarding the XP operating system. versus previously defined boot
partition universally understood.
