Boot Sequence

Does anyone know what precisely is taking place during the boot sequence when
the three lights (Num Lock, Caps Lock, & Scroll Lock) flash On then Off ?

This happens sometime during or after loading of the drivers and just before
the Welcome Screen appears. I don't believe this is the POST as it happens
well into the boot sequence.

Actually I meant to say "the three lights (Num Lock, Caps Lock, & Scroll
Lock) flash On then Off FOR THE SECOND TIME".

They flash On then Off when the power switch is first pressed, then Num Lock
comes on and stays on until the second time when the other two flash On then
all three turn Off.

The first is a part of the 'lets see if the hardware is all here' check, and
the second is the OS confirming the presence of a keyboard..
