Boot Problem

I have a application specific bootable CD that I use on four different
computers. On three of them it executes fine. However on the fourth it does
not. The computer with the problem is identical to one of the three on which
the application runs fine. When booting from the CD it first copies files
from the CD to a temporary location on the hard drive and it displays a
progress indicator as the files are copied. After the files are copied a
boot indicator is displayed with some bars moving from left to right. On the
computer with the problem, rather than booting after the files are copied, the
screen turns completely blue and the following is displayed in the middle of
the screen:

“*** STOP: 0X0000005C (0X0000010B, 0X00000003, 0X00000000, 000000000)â€

Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?
I have already run "fixmbr and "fixboot" from the Microsoft Recovery Console
to no avail.

You would need to tell us a few additional things, e.g
- What operating system does this CD use?
- What files does it copy?
- Do you expect the machine to boot into WinXP after the copy process?
- If so, how do you make sure that it does not boot off the CD?
- Does the machine boot successfully into WinXP when not using the CD?

Let me be a little more specific. The bootable CD is the Norton Ghost 12.0
Recovery CD. After the files are copied it boots into the recovery
environmnet. I assume it boots off the CD. I do not believe there is
anything wrong with the recovery CD since it works fine on my three other
computers.

Would it be correct to say that your question goes like so:

"I have a Norton Ghost 12.0 recovery CD. I can restore
WinXP with this CD on three different PCs. However, when
I do the same on the fourth PC then it crashes with a BSOD."

I don't think it restores WinXP - rather it boots into the Ghost recovery
environment which allows one to completely restore the contents of the system
drive. Yes, I can successfully boot into the environment on three computers
and on the fourth I get the 0xoooooo5c error.

The parameters fit with a 0X0000005C error.

Hope this helps.

Are you sure you copied the error correctly [EXACTLY]?
More likely 0x00000050C?

I do not use Ghost, hence I am not in a position to determine
what exactly Ghost does on your machine. If you don't get
any other replies then your best course of action might be to
check the Ghost FAQs or repost your question in a Ghost
newsgroup.
