Boot Problem

Wally

I woke up this morning to find a black screen on my Qosmio and could not
wake it up. I re booted and during Windows XP Media start up I had several
patterns of vertical lines until the screen went black again and froze.
Obviously windows isnt starting correctly for some reason. I can start in
Safe Mode and have managed to restore a previous restore point without luck.

Can anyone help?
Thanks
Steve

OK, you can get into Windows in Safe Mode but not regular mode. Your
description of the patterns of vertical lines and black screen makes me
think there is a hardware issue with the video chip. A good way to test
if a problem is caused by hardware or Windows is to boot with a
different operating system. One of the Linux "live" cd distros like
Knoppix is perfect for this. If you have the same issue - bad display
issues - with Knoppix, you probably will need to contact Toshiba tech
support.

Start in Safe Mode, then reset your display properties
to a very basic setting, e.g. 800 x 600 with a refresh rate
of 60 Hz. If this works, increase your resolution and
refresh rate until it fails again.
