boot.ini

My mouse pointer keeps jumping randomly across the
screen. I am using windows xp pro. My mouse is PS/2
compatible, not a serial mouse. I currently have a GPS
module connected via serial port. I thought that the
computer kept recognizing the GPS as a serial mouse so I
included /NoSerialMice in the boot.ini file. I put
the /NoSerialMice command just before the /fastdetect
command on the last line of the boot.ini file. My mouse
keeps jumping randomly across the screen. I looked at my
Device Manager with the mouse jumping across the screen
and the GPS module still connected via serial port and in
the 'Mice and other pointing devices' heading there was a
Microsoft Serial Ballpoint mouse listed. I disabled this
device but upon reboot the mouse still jumped across the
screen randomly. I cannot figure this out. Please help.
(This problem pertains to another computer, not the one
I'm currently on.)

I have no perfect solution, but perhaps a workaround.

The problem is that NMEA signals look similar enough to mouse
signals that the mouse driver jumps on them.

What you can do is switch the GPS off or disonnect it while
booting. Then load the program you want to use with the GPS
first and make sure it is set up for the proper serial port.

Only after having the program loaded, switch on or connect the
GPS.

There may be a way to disable serial mice detection, but I don't
know it offhand. Would be nice to have that. If anybody knows,
please chime in, I could use that too.
