After following the above instructions for making a boot
disk, XP Pro, I get the following error when using the
disk. INVALID BOOT.INI. When I received the message the
first time I retraced my foot prints and made another,
with the end results being the same. What gives? Thanking
all in advance.

Ron,

Boot information:

[boot loader]
timeout = 30
default = multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS = "Microsoft
Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

I didn't create a new BOOT.INI, copied the one from the
computer I made the boot up disk for.

Thanks,

Tom

Well there is nothing wrong with the boot ini file that you copied. However,
this is actually a strange phenomenon with this boot disk. I have been
recommending this boot disk for ages, in fact details of the boot disk are
available on my website. Unfortunately about 50% of the people I advise to
create a boot disk say they get this error message and, so far, I have been
unable to understand why. Every single time I create the boot disk it works
first time - that's even on a dual boot system.

John,

Oh well, "thanks," for the reply guess I will reformat
the disk and use it for something else. <g> Again, thanks
for your time. It is really disturbing when you follow
instructions to a "T" and they still don't work. At least
I am not alone with this problem. I was reading on
another forum where a person is getting this same error
but while trying to boot from the harddrive? Seems for
that problem, maybe just re-writing the boot.ini would do
the trick?
