Boot Disk can't find Server

D

Drew

Hello

I have everything all setup except for when I actually go
and try and use the boot disk to get the image. It starts
looking for the dhcp server but comes back with no reply
from server. I have verified the ris server and it says
there are no errors. I went and checked out the dhcp
server and it is authorized and giving out leases...which
I think is the strange part. If I boot the pc up normally
it will grab a dhcp lease but only when I try the boot
disk it will say there is no reply from server. Any help
with this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in
advance.

PS. I have checked the event log and binl service is fine
and there are no errors.

Is the RIS Server uathorized? Do it again by IP address from the DHCP
snap-in.

Is the RIS service running on the DHCP Server?

Can you successfully image a machine witht he client on the same subnet as
the RIS Server?

Do some clients work and some not work? What nics work and which do not?

From your message it appears that you can get a dhcp lease when booting
normally but using the boot floppy you do not get even a dhcp lease. Is
this correct? Which boot floppy are you using? There are 3rd-party
bootfloppies and the one that you make with Win2000's RBFG utility.

Often times you can solve this problem by updating the PXE rom in the client
nic.

Hello

Thank you for the response. The ris server checks out ok
by the test run in the remote install tab. yes, the same
machine is running both dhcp as well as ris. I can pull
images to the server but can't use the boot disk to put a
image on a pc. The nics check out from the list and I
have tried several computers without success. I am using
the rbfg from the admin folder in ris. Any ideas would
certainly help me out...thanks in advance.

the RIS Server?

Are clients on a different subnet?

What nics are you using?

Delete the lease in the dhcp scope for one of your RIS clients. Boot from
the floppy and see if a lease appears. That will tell us if the
floppy-booted machines are getting a lease at all.

Hello

There is a different subnet but the one I am specifically
working on the ris server resides on as well as the
machines I am trying to use a image with. I can pull a
image from a the model pc to the risserver but when I use
the floppy boot disk to grab an image from the ris server
it comes back with the server can't be contacted. i have
deleted the intire scope and reset the dhcp serveral
times. But still the boot disk doesn't want to work. Any
suggestion are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What brand/model nics are you using on the client?

When you looked at the dhcp server, is there a lease for the client each
time a RIS is attempted?

Have you tried updating the PXE Rom to the latest one for the client nic?
