Blue sidebar locked on desktop

I have the blue sidebar, which normally shows up on the left side when you
open a folder, on my desktop and can't get rid of it. It runs top to bottom,
no moving it around or corner icons to reduce or close. Any suggestions?

Click Start/Run and type:
regsvr32 /i shell32.dll
Restart Windows.

-or-

Download a VBScript which removes Common Tasks from Desktop:
