While using the internet I get occasional black
screens that resolve soon after. But on this
occasion I get a blue one with a shutdown.
When I startup again and check "Problem Details" O

The .dmp probably has a bit more useless detail.

You could try it on this utility.

It'll probably give the name of the drive, like nv_disp
or similar.

Since I haven't a clue what would cause it, I'd be
Googling the model of card "GTX480" and the bugcheck 0x117.

Now, an unknown, is whether the bug is 117 hex or 117 decimal.
So just plug in "bcc 117" when you're Googling

Of course, you should look for a root cause, as it
could be a warranty issue, or a hardware issue (something
needs to be fixed or adjusted). While it could be bad RAM,
you'd probably have had other symptoms if that was the case
(more than one error).

If you get this "while using the Internet", I would
suspect hardware acceleration setting on Adobe Flash,
or some other software that uses hardware acceleration.
With older versions of Flash, the cure was to turn off
hardware acceleration (as the Flash code didn't work
properly, for every flavor of video card). They should be
past that point by now. That's the only thing that comes
to mind if you mention "Internet" or "browser".

The driver file could be nvlddmkm.sys and there could be
multiple reasons for it.

Changing driver versions may help.

Or, it could be hardware related.

You'd use GPU-Z or some other utility like it, to check
temperatures on the video card. While some people tried
changing clocks or voltages on the card, in an effort
to find stability, that might not be enough.

If the web browser is IE9, or later, and if currently enabled, see what
happens when you disable using the GPU (video card) to accelerate video
in web pages.

Go to Internet Options -> Advanced -> Accelerated Graphics section.
Enable the "Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering" option.

Despite your video card should meet minimum requirements for use of GPU
rendering, this feature has caused problems with many users, even those
with new models and latest drivers.

Thanks, I'll give a try & report back. Although
it's working again it still blanks out momentarily
now & then.

I found a new driver (just a few days old) and I
installed it. So far so good but it still has a
momentary blackout occasionally.

I downloaded the "Techpowerup" but all the
temperatures shown seem OK, and here's the
