Blue screen of death

what does this mean:

the unhandled exception in session manager system process
terminated unexpected with a status of 0x0000006?

and how do i fix it? I boot up my computer and get this
error. I created a MS-DOS disk to boot up to DOS so that
I could save my files to a floppy. My computer will not
boot up to regular Windows XP. Is there a fix and can I
recover my files in the DOS prompt? I did try and boot
up with the disk I created and it would not allow me to
switch over from a: to c: . It kept giving me a invalid
drive specification. I typed c: and it would not work or
c:/

You probably wont be able to get your files in DOS. XP
uses NTFS which has security parameters and is not
accessible with boot disks. During boot up (before it gets
to the xp start up screen) hit the F8 key repeatedly to
bring up the start up menu. Select safe mode and see if it
will boot up. If it boots up you will be able to access
your files and save them to floppy. You may also be able
to diagnose the problem by checking for hardware faults or
a program you may have installed.
