Blue Lines > quoting/replying

Hi All,
I am trying to reply to emails and I setup Outlook 2003 to reply with a
prefix mark but I just get a blue line? Do I set this up under Tools, Email
Options? Do I need to do anything different, should I use plain text or
html? I don't see a difference if I switch them.

the blue line is the quote identifier for HTML. The other options are for
plain text.

So how do I configure Outlook to quote properly then, is that under Tools,
options, email options? Do I set the prefix option to use > and what do I
do about the blue line, do I just quote the email the same? I am not sure
how to format the email, do I just cut and paste the text from the original
and then put my reply below it? Is there any automated way to do this? I
found a post about "quotefix" and I believe you are the one that wrote in
about that, I tested it but I don't see what it does differently?

if you don't want to use the blue line, you'll need to set outlook to
convert all messages to plain text (it's in tools, options, email) -
otherwise, just use the blue line and don't worry about it.

I don;'t use quotefix, so I'm not sure exactly what all it does.

Thanks, so can you show me what a good message looks like then?

A good message looks like a message :) "Good" quoting is not just about the
prefix. It's about clearly identifying the quoted text, which the blue line
does, and not misattributing comments to the wrong person. It's properly
trimming messages to leave in only the text your are replying to, when
trimming is called for. In most cases, business email is not trimmed - but
personal are often trimmed and mailing list messages always should be
trimmed.

Quotefix works only for plain text messages. If you want to reply to an
HTML message, then you'll have to live with the blue line if you choose the
"Prefix each line of the original message" option.
