Blind dailing with PCTEL 2304 WT V.92 MDC modem in W2K

Modem works fine in NOT blind dailing mode under w2k.

However when ticking off the wait for dailtone before
dailing

(under start>Control Panel>Phone and modems
options>Modems>PCTEL 2304 WT V.92 MDC Properties>General)

and inserting x0 (blind dailing AT command see
http://support.ap.dell.com/docs/comm/r35323/en/at_and_s.htm
)

in the Extra initialisation commands

(under start>Control Panel>Phone and modems
options>Modems>PCTEL 2304 WT V.92 MDC Properties>Advanced)

a Windows Error 692: There was a hardware failure in
modem (or other connecting device) is seen.

Anybody intelligent out there who can shed some light on
this? Any suggestions are welcome

PS:The modem works fine in a hyperterminal blind dailing
session i.e. atx0dt1234
