blank pages printing 2 pages to a sheet

Most of the time printing multiple pages to one sheet of paper works OK.
Occasionaly though all you get is a set of nearly blank pages - with just
some blurred marks on the page. Any thought why this happens and how to avoid
it?

See if printing to PDF and then making a printout of the PDF works.
