Blackout, of entire "line" being typed!!!

In Word 2002, whenever I begin to type anything on a new document, the entire line becomes "BLACKED OUT". I have un-installed the entire application twice, ran the detect and auto-fix multiple times. Yet, when I click on "start", select Microsoft Word from my Windows menu and Word 2002 launches and I get a "new document" screen, as soon as I tap any letter on the keyboard... the entire line goes "black".

Calm down and read this:

The most likely fix (and the one that should have been placed first
instead of last) is Method 3: set your display's color depth to at
least 256 colors.
