Black Screen Start up

Hello, I just installed Windows XP Pro onto my computer. When it starts up
after the splash screen I get a black screen. When I pop in a cd..I at least
see the mouse change. I think there maybe something wrong with the video
setup. How do I get into safe mode? Thank you

Hi,

To enter Safe Mode start tapping the F8 key after the BIOS info goes
by.
At the next screen select Safe Mode.

A short duration black screen can be normal after the XP splash screen with
the progress bar disappears. How long does this black screen last before the
Welcome Screen or the Desktop appears?

The major problem is that the desktop picture never appeared. However, I
went into Windows Recovery and repaired the installation. Instead of
seeing just black after the welcome screen, i've got my desktop picture
tiled. It hangs at this point.
