Black screen on mouse/window interaction

I

ivan.svaljek

I have installed a new LCD(LG L1952T), video card(Galaxy FX 5500) and a
mouse(Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer 2.0) and kept having problems ever
since. Sometimes when I move a window quickly or scroll a web page,
even when using the crop tool in Photoshop the screen suddenly shuts
off(or goes black) and then resets. The problem is not reproducible(at
least I don't know when and why it happens) and happens 3-4 times per
day.
I've tried Windows XP repair, uninstalled/reinstalled newest DirectX
and tried two versions of Forceware (60 and 90) to no avail.
The fans are spinning and the temps are OK.
Is there something else to try before doing complete reinstall - I've
got a *lot* of software and settings to backup/reinstall if I go down
that road...

Try different drivers for the graphics card. Use the latest stable
(non-beta) drivers if you aren't already.

Are you sure that your PSU can supply enough power to the graphics card. I
think that you'll need to buy a more powerful quality PSU.

It's a Chieftec 400W vs. Athlon 3200+, 2x512MB, 3xHDD, 1xDVD and an FX
5500; I think it should pass.

I'll try to insert the old card, and see what happens (in a day or two).

I don't know much about Chieftec, or know that much about power supplies
compared to some of the people at the hardware newsgroups I post to. But I
do know that it isn't that simple, as you need to know how many amps can be
supplied on the 12v rail, or something like that. I have only got expensive
ones from Tagan and Zalman so i don;t worry about that stuff too much.

This is advertised for my PSU:
