Black Screen BUT PC Started Fine - No Freeze, Just Black

A few months ago started sometimes getting black screen (flat monitor)
on boot up WITH freeze. Occassionly could boot in safe mode. At one
time began to get only balck screen with freeze and n ooption for safe
mode.

Switched monitors same problem. Put flat monitor on other PC and it
worked. Same thing on repeated bootups.

My conclusion at that time was video card.

Brought PC to Best Buy where I had extended warranty. Guy hooks it up.
What do you know. It boots. $%#* me!

Get it home and it works.

Works fine for several months. Now I get black screen on bootup BUT the
PC makes it through boot up, it does not freeze. I hear the XP music.
After all booted still black screen. I know the drill so I press
cntrl-alt-dlt and alt-u and u and the PC shuts down. Switch monitors
same thing. And this monitor works on other PC.

SO I got a booting PC but a black screen. Going to bring to Best Buy
again. I will freak out if it boots at Best Buy like last time and
shows the desktop. Maybe I will scream.

My conclusion: the Nvidea Graphics card is not working properly. Can't
even get a C prompt on boot-up but I know it is there because I type
"exit" and enter and I hear the PC go into windows XP mode.

Life is fun with PCs and Windows. Well I will at least say it is not
boring.

Maybe getting near that time where I get a backup drive and reformat or
whatever it is that gets done. Unless Best Buy fixes it this time. BUt
it can't be hard drive problems if PC has booted up successfully but
fails to give me a view on the screen.

Reformat will not help you as you have hardware problems that are apparent
well before Windows even begins to load.

You could have a break in the connecting wire on your monitor. You could
also have an intermittent plug. Do you know how to check for these? Wiggle
them around as the computer is booting up and see if you get video. You
already changed out the video card so I would rule out a bad connector on
the card.

Twas the video card. It's in the shop now at Best Buy for warranty
repair/replacement on the card.
