BitDefender Free Edition free for only so long -- Suggestions, Alternatives?

D

dmcg

I had been using a version BitDefender Free Edition v 7.2 and at one
point in trying to update virus definitions, I got a message saying
that my version had expired. I downloaded version 8.0 and installed it
over version 7.2, but the expiration notice still appeared.

I even tried to uninstall the program and the do a fresh install, but
to no avail.

Does anyone know of a way to getting it to work or is the free version
free for a limited time only?

Thanks in advance for any info and/or suggestions for a program that
would be an equally good alternative.

No there is no limit to the free version.

It's a fairly well known problem. You need to clear the win.ini entries.

Here's what you do.

I can't find the source where a BD official representive gives the answer,
but basically the posts above is it.

I've heard of that problem. Reason is the lousy uninstall routine. Maybe it
helps to clean the registry after uninstalling. My alternative is avg free.
