BIOS update with no FDD on WinXP

Steve

Hi

I would like to update BIOS on several WinXP systems without FDD's and am
wondering what the options are:

1. USB FDD -- are these bootable in the same way as the standard FDD
connection? If so I will buy one right away.

2. Can a MMC or SDRAM card be made to look like a bootable WinXP floppy disk
and also boot from the systems inbuilt card reader. If so how is this done?

Cheers

Answers to both questions are; You can boot from these devices ONLY if your
BIOS supports booting from them. Look under the boot options to see if that
is the case.

It appears that BIOS will boot from USB mass storage devices and also the
smart card reader (I assume this includes MMC / SDRAM type), I shall refine
my questions:

1. If I had a WinXP created boot floppy created in the normal way -- would
it boot in the same way using a USB connected FDD. If so it will solve my
problem.

2. how to I go about making a MMC or SDRAM card into a bootable floppy
equivelent to the WinXP bootable floppy.

Yes to answer 1, if your BIOS supports it. On answer 2 I have never tried it.
Are all the systems the same, models (MOBO primarly) if so create a boot cd.

If the motherboard's BIOS permits/supports booting from USB, yes.
Otherwise, no.

No idea.

Have you tried making a DOS-bootable CD?

Why do you need to update the bios? Is there a feture in the update that
you need or want?
