BIOS Boot Settings

Rick Webb

Hi me again,
I have completed the transformation of my poorly operating PC to a fast and
dedicated Audio PC. With your help , I uploaded Service Pack 1 and the
Rollup 1 to my PC.
So, I'm pretty much set now, except I have one question.
" In the BIOS , what should be the correct Boot sequence" ? During the
formatting and re-installation of XP , I had set the 1st Boot Drive as
CD-ROM. Can I leave it there, or should I change it to Floppy or HD ?

Thanks

It makes no difference except for convenience. I leave it with the CD-ROM
first in line, the floppy second and the hard drive third. That way you
don't need to change each time you need to boot from a CD or a floppy disk.
NOTE: the system will look at those drives during bootup to see if a disk is
in the drive but finding none, it will proceed to the next listed bootable
device.

Thanks Michael

I think my Machine is ready to Rock. Hopefully no more problems.

Oh, one more thing about the BIOS Boot Settings. In BIOS, I have a HD 00 /
HD 01/ HD 02 / HD 03 options. What one would be the Windows Boot Drive ?HD00
?

Uh, Rick, I don't know!

I have no idea on which drive XP is sitting or where the boot information is
being stored for that matter but you seem pretty happy with things so I
assume the system is booting? If yes, don't worry about it.

Yup, found it... HD - 0 is the first Hard Drive. and XP is sitting nicely on
that.
Thanks Again

Cheers

I do not know the make of your computer, but many [including Dell] set the
BIOS to boot (1) Floppy Drive, (2) CD-ROM Drive, (3) Hard Drive. If I were
you, I would setup exactly the same.
