Big Services Problems

M

Hello,

On WinXP-Pro, the following errors pops up in Services
-
"could not start cryptographic services on local computer."

Then below that it says -
-
"error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to
start"

As far as i understand the gentle-boy were exploring on his
computer and did not create a backup of his services and
did not have system restore on.
He forgot what he disabled and after trying to enable -
CRYPTOGRAPHIC Services it will not allow me to start it,
but instead gives me the above stated Error.

Can someone please guide me on how to enable and or
correct this problem?

Thank you very much.

In Services, double click the Cryptographic Service entry and check the Dependencies tab to see what services it depends on. Make sure those services are set correctly.

If you go to services and double click on the cryptographic one, there
is a tab that says dependencies. It lists the services that are needed
which in this case is the RPC service.

I've tried all those, but it did not help.
I even ran -->>"sfc /scannow"<<-- and everything went
well, however i still get the error.

I tried double clicking the file however nothing pops up.
I even right click and click "properties, and everything
else but nothing happen,
I also tried to copy the file (cryptofix.vbs) from a cd i
made on my computer however i can't even drag and drop the
file onto the problem computer.

So besides the fact that i can't get the Cryptographic
service to work (and is stuck on Auto) I can't drag and
drop any files on the computer.

Admin tools services (double click Cryptographic and look in
Dependencies) indicates that it is dependent on the Remote Procedure
Call service, which is a rather central component. If that is failing to
start - or is being stopped (look down for it and try clicking Start
when it is highlighted; it should be on Automatic startup) this may
indicate an infestation by the BLAST worm.

I'll take a look into that area later on and post if it
was a virus.
Thanks for all your help so far.

I got the okay to re-install XP, so thanks for the many
answers... just wished one of them could have cured the
problem.
Thanks anyway.
