big BIG problems

Okay, I'm really desperate here. Everything on my other
computer is on the line. Here's the problem:

I'll start with how it happened, I was going to turn my
computer off, but I accidentally hit restart instead. So,
I waited for my enter passwordscreen to come up, typed in
my password, my loading music played, and my desktop
loaded. Only nothing happened after that. My toolbar at
the bottom of the screen didn't load and when I tried to
hit start, my pointer turned into an hourglass. On the
load up, it mentioned something with the name
wcgmdlcs.exe (or something to that effect) had a problem
and asked me to send or don't send the error report. I
don't have internet on that computer so I clicked don't
send. The pop up wouldn't close however and it was around
midnight, so I went to sleep. That was yesterday.

Today, I woke up to find that it hadn't loaded, so I hit
the button on the processor to turn off my computer. It
did the same thing last night every time I restarted it.
I tried to call hp tech support but they wanted $40
dollars for a phone call. Here's what I can do when I get
to the desktop:

1. Sometimes McAffee Virus Scanner says sgtray.exe is
trying to access the internet. I tell it not to allow it
but it can't close because windows explorer can't load.

2. Sometimes the error message that wcgmdlcs.exe can't
load and windows is closing pops up. I can see the error
report or open it in Visual C++ to debug it. I don't know
how to debug it and didn't mess with it. I did see,
however, that a yellow arrow was pointing to one line of
code. In the context area it said "error. unknown
function 'this'" or something to that effect.

3. I can press ALT+CTRL+DELETE to open my task manager
and I see that sgtray.exe is a process and it is possible
for me to end it. However, when I end it, it can't close
because windows explorer can't load.

That's the jist of it. I know I could reinstall Windows
XP and lose everything on that computer, but that's not
exactly an option. I just can't lose the stuff on there
and I'm really desperate to get my computer back. If you
guys could tell me what to do or tell me how to get to
somebody who can help me, like a programmer who could
attack the source of the problem in Visual C++, please
help me.

sorry to hear you are having trouble -- although i am no expert, and even
though you don't have network connected, it sounds like you might have a
virus. i would try booting from my virus software cd. barring that, there
is the repair install of xp, you boot from the xp cd and it asks you if you
want to repair windows, but be careful -- i recently tried this and ended up
reformatting which sounds like it would be a big deal for you PS screw
those blood suckers at hp

Also, sometimes my processors makes funny noises when it
loads in the Disc Drive, and if I can't save the computer
I'm just wondering if there's a way to get inside my
computer with a special boot process and if I can get my
files onto a disc and reinstall Windows XP.
