Bi-directional commumication

I have recently installed win2000 professional along with
sp4 on both my server and workstation. I have an HP1220c
inkjet printer on LPT1 of the server.
I now receive an error message form the HP toolbox stating
that it is not possible to communicate with the printer to
display ink levels etc.
This tool worked perfectly Ok when NT4.0 was installed on
the server previously.
The HP website states that bi-directional communication
via LPT ports and USB ports is not supported in win2000,
has this or is this to be resolved?

Use HP JetDirect print servers. I have 3 HP 1220c printers on JetDirects and all works
great !
In fact all my printers (except for a Xerox 432st) are on HP JetDirect print servers.

Check yopu BIOS and make sure that you have EPP or ECP capabilities turned
on for your physical printer port.

After making the change, go to the server's device manager and delete all
the printer ports. Refresh and reinstall the port drivers (hopefully this
time the system will choose the bidirectional ones over the default
unidirectional ones).
