Beware of Fake XP

*SIGH* You obviously can't read! Any site that has to claim its "legit"
obviously isn't!

I would never buy from an online seller without looking into it
thoroughly.

* I asked how much 20 pounds UK is in USA dollars.
* I asked if there was a better business bureau type thing for
websites of online sellers.

But you - I notice that you truly enjoy cutting in with smart-ass
replies to people. With your online posting demeanor & your intent,
you are basically calling people idiots when you can - you jump at the
opportunity.

And I did go back to the website after posting, because I only did a
quick look the first time. This time I clicked on their FAQ:
"Can I register the software?
No. However do not think that this will stop you getting updates for
your software, because updates are always available whether you
register or not." &
"Will I be able to receive software updates?
Yes. As with any product you purchase, updates are always available
whether you have registered or not."

Now before you cut in with more remarks about reading everything
thoroughly before a person posts or replies - I don't think so. A
major part of what newsgroups are about is to post questions & get
answers as an alternative to other means of research.

Yea sure there have been a couple of times I haven't been "nice" - I
just replied (along with every other replier): "you bought it & you
knew the prices were way out of whack, now blame yourself."

But you.. you just revel with your superiority complex.

I'm new to XP and therefore new to the XP NGs and I've read your postings on
several of them. Do you have to be quite so abrupt and judgemental?

At today's exchange rate, 20 quid is worth $36.60 USD.

They probably also contained any bundled OEM application packages,
in addition to the substantial amount of Compaq dross.

Bruce - there must have been an *enormous* amount of Compaq dross to fill 5
CDs -'bundled' being the operative word. Joan told me about the 6 CDs some
time ago. I'm just as baffled now as I was then!!

No doubt. Also, there may be no compression method used. Even
retail WinXP installation CDs have quite a few files compressed, to be
expanded only upon installation.

Ah - I'll keep to my 1 XP CD installation method - don't want the hassle of
any OEMs bothering me :))

Note, this is one time where I agree with her, because she admits her
pathological inability to be, if in the least, sociable, and she is
congenitally unhelpful.

She has gone by these names before:

Try searching for

- Sarah Balfour
- Magrat
- Black Aliss
- Cassandra
- Amethyst
- Epona
- Cerridwen

Just to name a few!

I've seen her complain to others that it is a violation to change emails to
spurn others that make those addresses into their killfiles, by showing up
again to them, and that it is some ISP violation. Yet she does this
regularly, by not only changing her email addy, bur her name and profile;
talk about the worst kind of violator and hypocrite! She changes her name
and email addy regularly after people don't reply to her, because she
figures she made it into their killfiles, and still wants to show everyone
how stùpid of a çùnt she is. And she enjoys thoroughly irritating others
because of her inability to have any semblance of a social life in the real
world, other than hanging around these venues torturing those that need
help.

Here is someone that knows who she is and what she is about, read here;

WOW! I remember most of those names. What abunch of obnoxious, egotistic,
knowitall, idiots they were.

You and me both Will, it's a lot easier and tidier than that Compaq
restore set. Never did get around to actually having a look what was on
them, they're relegated to the back of a shelf and cupboard <g>
I know John's machine had a load of stuff loaded with it and that's an
eMachine but it only came with one CD to restore.

You're probably right Bruce but I never bothered to look what was on them.

I knew what that link was before I clicked it, but thanks for the chuckle!
KM and SS are banned from these groups and have been for nearly a year. In
fact, those were the very posts that got them blacklisted! Those are
opinions (and libellous ones at that) I can produce receipts for all my
software - and my hardware. I don't know who SS is, but I know he lives on
the other side of the planet, so I don't see how he can have seen me (there
are no photos of me anywhere on the net). All the hardware I own I have
bought with my own money - I don't even live with my father!

Quite honestly, this is water off a duck's back and I just laugh. If you're
sad enough to believe the lies of someone whose life is so empty that he has
to post libellous statements, then that's your business. Me? I'll
concentrate on mine.

Oh, by the way, I've never use the name 'Epona'.

Ahhhh Sarah, I should really have known it was you. The woman who gave a
mutual friend a nasty message to give to me on my wedding day. The friend
had the decency not to give details BTW.

As we don't have "mutual friends" you are clearly deluded. I do not know,
nor do I wish to know, anyone you are associated with.

Yes we've met, would you like me to jog your memory?
In fact I have photographic proof.
