I can't speak to IDE, since my experience with TI is only with SATA.

It works just as well with IDE drives.

Yes. I actually make the images with Image for DOS, from the same
company as bootitng. I can set byte-for-byte validation for both imaging
and restore. Whenever I make major changes to the system, I make a new
image, and I keep a log of changes and image dates. This replaces System
Restore.

so then what happens to make sure the new drive gets the boot sector
corrected regarding the hard drive info?
