Just an opinion!

I don't like the way Belarc used to put shortcuts and favorites for
itself and if you moved or removed them, they would reappear the next
time you ran the program. If the fixed that "feature" then the program
would be okay. Still, I agree with Bryan. Aida32 is better.

There's another one called PC Wizard 2003 that I like quite a bit.
The readme says the website is at http://www.cpuid.com

That does look like a good one in the screenshots. And a more direct
link is:

http://www.cpuid.com/pcw.php#download

That page is broken in Mozilla 1.3 (at least on my computer, and I
have some heavy mods.) You may need to scroll down to get to the
download area.

A good review of PC Wizard is here:

Thanks for the link, Maureen!

HUH? All it (Belarc) did on my computer (I've had it for several months)
was to place an idon on the desktop. I've no shortcuts to it in favorites,
no nothing from it but the little icon on the desktop that only runs when I
click it. So I don't understand what you refer to in the above post.

Don't know what to tell you, Helen. That's what it did on my system.
At least the version I was using did that, and I've since deleted both
the program and the archive from my hard drive so I can't tell you
which version that was. As I said (or tried to say), if *they* fixed
that "feature" in newer versions, then I guess the program would be
okay. Maybe they *have* fixed that problem.
Still, I like Aida32 better and now, the program that Maureen
Goldman pointed out, PC Wizard 2003.

Helen snip
It did the same thing to me.

Belarc (from this summer) added desktop icon, menu items, and
QuickLaunch icon on Win2k and Win95 (minus QuickLaunch of course).
Don't know about favorites.

PC Wizard is quite complete. Don't know what I would do with so much
detail. Doesn't have the the breadth and other features of aida32,
though.

(John C., is it kosher (in honor of the Jewish new year) to agree with
you on two points with just a little quibble? <g>)

I used (use) Belarc with Win98/SE and have experienced none of these things.

Helen,
What version are you using? Also, I wander what setting is
responsible for this disparity.

Just a guess here, but when BA first appeared, there was an online
install "service" as well as a downloadable product. I remember having
to explain that the online version did not transfer a "profile" to a
remote server, but just did an install then run (the site didn't explain
this very well back then). Maybe there were two different install
routines for these older versions that created different shortcuts etc.

My goodness, I even agree with your response to Helen. I'd prefer if
Belarc provided a more flexible install. In particular, IIRC, Belarc
also didn't allow me to specify directories.
