BCM separate database from Outlook?

I just upgraded from office xp to 2007 and have been using outlook for
contact management and email.

I have just started learning about what BCM is.

Is BCM an outlook add-in that uses the outlook interface but creates a
completely separate database with no relation to the outlook database?

For example, if I import or copy contacts from outlook into BCM do I now
have 2 distinctly separate and unrelated information paths for these
contacts? Will a change in a contacts phone number in BCM be changed in
Outlook?

BCM has a separate database. There are some links between Outlook and
BCM; for example, between emails in Outlook and the sender in BCM
Business Contacts.

You can copy or move Contacts between BCM and Outlook. When you copy
them, there is no link retained between the Contact in Outlook and
BCM. The general idea is that when you add BCM to Outlook, your
customer contacts will be hadled in BCM, and your Outlook Contacts
folder will be used for your other contacts.
