battery failure

darren

i just installed windows xp professional on my laptop.
the battery will only stay charged for about 10 minutes
and shuts off. i bought a new battery for it and let it
charge for a couple of days and the same thing happens.
I notice also that windows xp is not recognizing the
battery at all. (how much power is left in the battery,
etc) any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you

1) Either your BIOS settings are wrong

2) Your laptop has a physical problem that needs fixing

OR

3) Your CMOS battery is stuffed.

Just went through the laptop crap recently. Replaced HD that was dying
anyway and battery was no longer than 10 mins. Replaced that and now works
fine except booting. Replaced CMOS battery and all went a lot better after
that.

BTW, I run SETI on the laptop ONLY when on wall power. If you are running
something that keeps the CPU running 100% all of the time, it uses your
laptop battery a lot faster. This doesn't mean it will be 10 mins of battery
time but it WILL cut the useable time down dramatically.
