Batching the Nikon 5000ED

Just got the Nikon 5000ED with the SF210, and it's a very nice piece
of equipment. We're just learning how to get the most out of if and
wonder if there's a web site with some tutorials on it?

More importantly, is there a way to make it run a batch of slides
non-stop to the hard drive? The best we've been able to do is press
"Scan" once for each slide.

Thanks

Mike

Under "Preferences", select the options for Batch Scans and click the
box "Save to disk" in the "After each image" area. You should also
define the location and format of the files to save by setting the
options in the File Saving section of preferences.

This is all in the software manual that is on the Nikonscan disk.

You should have received NikonScan with the LS5000. You just turn it
loose in the batch mode and it'll run until the SF210 runs out of
slides, or more likely, jams.

When the SF210 is plugged in the system should know it's there and
make provisions

It's been a while since I ran mine with the SF210, but as I recall it
was pretty much straight forward and intuitive and it does operate
differently with the auto slide feeder in place. I'm trying to
remember just what I selected to start the sequence. Once started I
never had to start it again as long as the feeder had slides and
didn't jam.

Maybe I'll get a chance to try it tomorrow.

Had checked all the batch blocks and it still wouldn't work until I
stumbled the last item to change: In the 'Extras', you have to set the
slide feed to a number greater than 1. It's obvious once you know it,
but the manual wasn't at all helpful in figuring this out.

My next challenge to figuring out how to get the slides saved to the
drive I want in batch mode. So far it insists on saving them in My
Docs/My Pics on the C drive. Haven't found where to change the
default yet.

This sounds like you are not doing the right thing to set it off.

Click 'Scanner', 'Slide Feeder'.

Enter the number of slides to feed and click 'Scan'.

The next dialog box 'Batch Scan Settings' allows you to tick or untick
'Create scan log', 'Autofocus' and so on, and make sure that in the
'After each image' section both boxes are ticked. Click OK.

Now you get a dialog box 'File Saving Options'.

Set the File Naming as you wish (I use a prefix individual to each film
I scan), and in the 'File Saving' part it lists the directory and has a
button with three dots next to it '...' which you can use to change
where the files are saved. You can also select the file format to save
as - I use TIFF.

Click 'OK' and off it goes.

When you get it in batch mode, it'll ask you where to save (and
filename patterns and such).
