I am running Outlook 2000 on Windows 98SE. My pst file is 85 Mbytes. I had
several e-mails with substantially large e-mail attachments that I deleted
from my sent items folder and then emptied the deleted items folder. The
size of my pst file did not go down. This situation is unacceptable. Can
anyone help? Third party utilities to resolve this issue would also be of
interest.

You will have to "compact" the PST file to recover the space. That
function is available in different places depending on the version of
outlook, my recollection in 2000 is that it was under Tools / Services,
you have to get to the properties page for the PST folder and there is a
"compact now" button, or something like that.
