Balance 17" LCD Monitor, CM2017 ??

Hello,

As much as I try to avoid Wal-Mart because they love sweat shops,
this monitor grabbed my interest. I figure, no matter who I buy a monitor
from it is going to be made in some Asian sweat shop.

Does anyone know if these monitors are worth looking at? The picture
quality did not look bad.. I am just thinking of reliability. I know LCD's
have a lamp life.. But who cares. My Trinitron only last 3 years so I
could care less about that..

I am shopping for the monitor to replace my Sony Trinitron. Mine
only lasted 3 years, but at the same time, the Packard Hell that it replaced
is still humming away on my brothers PC.. Go Figure.. After this, I
figured it doesn't pay to buy anything nice because it is all crap and will
only last three years.. What happened to when stuff would last longer.. I
have a Zenith Console TV in the basement that is 20 years old and still
going strong. Sure it is not modern, but it hurts me to see it go into a
landfill if it is working perfectly. It is great for the basement!!

Thanks,
Jeff P

Having visited a few monitor factories in my life, I tend to take issue
with the snap judgment about any "Asian sweat shop" building monitors,
regardless of who it is for.
You may get a clue about who builds it by checking the product label for
the city of manufacture - That and the FCC ID# are supposed to be clearly
printed along with the month and year of manufacture on the product label.
(But then you'll actually have to walk into the "sweat shop outlet" to find
out
any real data....too bad. - TIC)

Sony computer products are grossly overrated. I don't know why everybody is
so enthusiastic about their crummy monitors. I remember a roomful of
computers. The IBM, Zenith, and Hitachi monitors just didn't die. But the
Sonys that the Powers That Be decided to foist upon us ran their whole life
cycle before our eyes and when they died we pulled some of the IBM, Zenith,
and Hitachi monitors off the shelf and put them back into service, where,
last I heard, they were still going strong.

Get an LG or IBM or Hitachi.

Yup. And if you investigate you will find that Zenith is now a subsidiary
of LG.
