Bad_pool_error with laptop

Hey,

I recently installed Vista RC1 on my dell inspiron 6400 (Australian Model)
Laptop. It has decent specs with and:

ATI x1400 video card,
core2 duo 2GHz processor,
1 gig ram

I installed Vista with the power cable plugged in and everything went fine.
After it was installed still everything was fine. I then wanted to move my
laptop, so i unplugged the power adaptop (while vista was still running) and
attempted to move it. I instantly got a 'Bad_Pool_Caller' blue screen error.
So after restarting without the the cable plugged in i got the same error.
I figured there must be a problem running on pure battery. So i plugged the
cable back in and restared again...same error. I noticed the laptop does not
recognise the cable is in, but still recharges the battery.

I started windows in safe mode with networking and here i am now, its
running fine in safe mode.

If anyone could help me it would be Greatly appreciated.

hi,
interesting. I noticed that just yesterday also. I first did not know what
happened. I took my notebook (same as yours E1505) home and just unplugged
the power and did a shutdown. What I didn't see is the blue screen and the
notebook rebooting while it was in my bag. Later at home I noticed that the
bag was pretty warm and found out that the notebook was running on full all
the time and drained the battery to 0.

I had no idea what happened until I removed the power while it was running.
Got the same BSOD. However, when I restarted the PC on just battery it
booted up fine into Vista RC1. I plugged the power back in fine also. I
guess unplugging it while it's running is not safe yet.

let me know if you come across a solution.

I'm glad im not alone. No solution yet, i have tried disableing most devices
as im sure its a device error, but i began to get new errors, such as BSOD
'page_fault_in_non_paged_area.'

Found a workaround, bit of a pain tho, have a look

Aparently if you disable speedstep, disable a cpu, or rollback the bios it
works fine.

I deleted Vista, so im gna reinstall it and see if it works by disableing
speedstep.

ahh, thanks. sounds familiar. I will try to disable speedstep as well and
see how that goes.

seems to be fixed with 5728. I have no problems anymore.

Hi,
That was it exactly. fixed in 5728.
I posted about it back in 5536. It was a bios issue with Dell e1505(Inspiron
6400) Intel Core duo laptops.
Seems there was a problem with Dell Bios A07 and A08, which was causing
a BSOD upon unplugging/undocking.
