You can't. You need a replacement cd.

I tried reinstalling the drive and the mode was DMA. I believe the problem
facing me is the bad block of memory in the registery not just a bad disc or
an old driver. So, my question is still, how do i repair the bad memory block
in the registery that applies to the cd-rom type thing. I need an internet
remedy as I am unable to play any type of disk.

There is no "memory" in the registry. The registry is just a set of
data files.

If you are positive that it is registry corruption that is causing
your CD drive problems then download the file CDGONE.ZIP from
http://aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip and extract the file cdgone.reg
from it. Merge that file into your registry and all of the CD
related entries will be gone.

Reboot the computer and it will redetect the CDROM drives and create
new registry entries for them. Note that you may have to reinstall
any CD or DVD burning software that you use.

Good luck

This site gives info on a manual edit of the registry as well as a fix that
is based on the cdgone.reg file that Mr. Martell recommends.. In cdgone.zip
there is a nice safety extra (editreg.reg).. Accidentally clicking and
installing .reg files by mistake can cause problems system wide, see the
"read me first.txt" for more info, works great..

Yes, Ron that's why I've asked for help from the panel because I am not an
expert. The error I get is: The device,\Device\CdRom0,has a bad block. This
is from advanced system information-error log. Any suggestions ? Perhaps the
"bad block'' is on the hard drive, you tell me. Thanks for any help, I am
getting closer to a solution.

Yea, Jaymon upon looking at adv. system info I see this: The device,
\Device\CdRom0, has a bad block. I first thought that this referred to the
registry but, upon expanding the message it says, has a bad block of memory.
I will try what you linked me to in the mean time. Can I cure a memory
problem in a harddrive ? Remember I cannot run os due to cd-rom not
funtioning.

The error message points to the CDROM drive itself. This indicates a
probable physical problem with that drive, such as a a defective ROM
or buffer memory chip within the drive.

One thing you might want to do is to double check the cable
connections to the drive (inside the computer case). Make sure that
both ends of the data cable - the end that plugs into the motherboard
as well as the end that plugs into the drive itself.

You might also consider removing the drive and trying it in another
computer. If a second computer also has problems with the drive then
it is a problem with the drive itself. On the other hand if the drive
works okay in the second computer then the problem is with the
computer itself or with the software installed on that computer.

What type of drive is it? If it is a CDROM or even a CDRW drive then
the cheapest solution is probably just to replace the drive. If it is
a DVD or DVD writer then it may be worthwhile checking it out further
at a repair shop.

Good luck

Depending on the drives make and model # you may be able to update the
firmware for the drive.. Without knowing what (drives make & model #) you
actually have installed, makes it hard to diagnose your problem..
The more drive info you provide the better..
