It may be necessary. Some antivirus apps use backweb for updates. Shaw
Internet Security and it's parent PC-cillin do. Others may as well. Many
commercial apps use it as well. Some install it as a service so it may have
to be turned off in the service tab. Unfortunately a lot of spyware has used
backweb as well so many antispyware programs partially remove it causing the
error mentioned by the Papaduk. It needs to be determined what program was
using backweb. If it's a needed program then it needs to be reinstalled. If
not then either the service can be stopped or the startup removed.
