BAckUp Sytem ?

What-a-Tool

Have problems with my boot-up files as described in another post.
Im going to try reinstalling WinXP pro on partition 1. I have some data and
several programs installed on partition 2 that I hope to save.
I have tried backing up the system onto partition 2, and also onto a cd, but
keep getting an error.
Also, Im thinking I don't want to replace all the system files after
re-installation, as some of these are what is causing me my boot-up woes.
If I copy the registry alone, and then replace after the re-installation,
will the new Windows pick up the previously installed partition 2 programs?

If so, what is the best way to copy the registry for this.

Thank You

Hi,

Nice idea, but it won't work. The registry will contain needed information,
but it will point in the wrong direction for the program folders, though
there are ways (lengthy) of correcting this. Plus, the new installation will
not contain files that are installed by the program into the system folders.

Oh well - should have known it wouldn't be that easy!

Thanks
