(Backup Line) Operating System ??

Paul Hicks

A choice of operating systems has appeared when I boot up. I'm not sure how
this happened but I was installing Norton GoBack at the time.
On boot up I get the choice of either:
Microsoft Windows XP professional...or
(Backup Line) Microsoft Windows XP professional.
I have uninstalled GoBack to no avail and tried System Restore but it could
not restore.What should I do?
Thank you...Paul

Go to Start > Run and type: MSCONFIG , and hit enter.
Click on the BOOT.INI tab and then click on "Check All Boot Paths"
to delete incorrect boot paths.

If the above does not work for you, then:

Right-click MY COMPUTER and select:

Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery Settings > Edit

CAREFULLY edit your boot.ini file to remove the SECOND entry.
Your boot.ini file should then look similar to this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

Thank you Carey
Option 2 from My Computer worked.
I'm intrigued as to why/how this occurred.

I am curious, too, about how it got fixed. The 1st line after
the [operating systems] line in the boot.ini file (located at
C:\boot.ini) normally has rdisk(0) - indicating the 1st HD in
the boot sequence - since most people have their operating
system on their primary HD and the primary HD as the
1st HD in the BIOS's boot sequence. Is your operating system
actually on the 2nd HD?
