backup entire drive onto another hard drive

I am wondering if windows xp home with its MS Backup can be used to copy a
full c drive to another hard disk as a complete backup, and be able to
restore it should the primary drive fail or get corrupted?

I was thinking about Norton Ghost or Backup up my PC or simple backup .
Appreciate any thoughts.

Alan, I use a product called Drive Image 7 and have had good results.

Interesting... I also use Drive Image, with excellent results. I've used
Ghost, it is pretty good, but not as good, I think, as Drive Image. Drive
Image is no longer being developed. Symantec bought it out. It is my
understanding that the next version of Ghost will look like Ghost but will
really be Drive Image.

I have a DOS partition with Drive Image on it at the front of my disk and
boot it to do backups and restores to the C: partition. Whole process takes
5 minutes.

I use Ghost 2003, boot from a floppy. Create occasional images of C to
drive D. To restore you boot from the floppy and restore the image, works
great.

It isn't free. And no program is foolproof. I have seen reports of
problems with it in here. But on the whole it's a good program.

Agree Acronis True Image is not free but I would recommend it as I have
found it very easy to understand and use.
