Backup and recovery Issue

After using an External Hard Drive to backup my computer and I had My
Documents sharing set to Make This Folder Private.

Due to a format and Reinstall of XP Home I attempt to access the My
Documents that I had put on the External Hard Drive and I get a message that
it is unaccessable and Access Is Denied.

I have not changed the Login name and It is still unacessable. Is there a
way to recover it or backdoor around it? I have Admin clearance already and
the knowledge base is leading me nowhere

You may need to seize ownership of the folders on this disk.
Check Start / Help for a detailed explanation on "ownership".

Since you know about this, could you tell me why the properties folder says
that there are 0 files and 0 folders within but when my AV scans that area it
is detecting all my files that are within its that normal....

AV probably runs under the System account which has full
access to these folders.
