Backing up

I back up my files to the server here at work. So far it
has been sort of an article of faith that the necessary
files are being backed up through the Windows XP backup
utility. Now I am using Outlook for e-mail, and would
like to be sure of backing up archive and other .pst
files. How can I find out if the default folder for .pst
files is included in the backup? Or should I just archive
and/or back up Outlook to My Documents, since I know that
is included in the Windows XP backup?

Depends on what you are backing up already. By default pst-file are stored
in;
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\
(which is a hidden folder)

I also store my pst-files in the My Documents folder. I found this a better
place since I consider the pst-file as data just like Word and Excel
documents and is indeed easier for scheduling back-ups.

If you right click the pst, click properties and then click the advanced
button, it should show you the path where the file is located. You
could instruct backup to backup this location if it isn't already.

Thanks to both for responding. I know where the .pst
files are located. The problem is that I don't know if
they are being included in a standard backup. I don't
know if there is a way to do a standard backup plus other
folders. I think it is either the backup utility's
default or I have to choose every single folder that is to
be included in the backup. I will do some more
investigating and experimenting, but for now I think I
will just put archive and backup .pst files into My
Documents, which I know is included in the Windows XP
backup.
