Backing Up Personal Folder in Outlook

P

P Ponzeli

I've visited numerous websites regarding backing up my Outlook information
(I have Outlook 2002), and they all reference a .pst file. I have searched
my computer's entire hard drive, and there is no .pst file on it. I also
did as one website suggested and right-clicked on "Outlook Today," then
left-clicked on "Properties," then clicked on "Advanced," and the file path
and name to which the .pst file is SUPPOSEDLY being saved does not exist (it
was C:\Documents and Settings\Robert Burns\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst). When I click on Tools, Email Accounts,
View or Change Existing Directories or Address Books, the only address book
which shows up is "Outlook Address Book" (of type MAPI). I very much want
to back up my Outlook information, particularly my contacts, but I can't
figure out how to do it. Any help anyone can provide would be GREATLY
appreciated because I always back up all of my other critical information,
but Outlook has me stumped as to how to do it. Thanks.

The .pst file is hidden one - turn on searching hidden files and you will
see it. Also, in your Views option in Explorer, turn on hidden and system
files as well as showing extentions.

Thank you so much for the help!! I don't know how in the world I would have
figured it out without a friend having suggested I load up newsgroups (which
I had no clue what they were or how they operated) and pose the question. I
really appreciate the help because I was convinced something was unique
about my system that made me different. I'd printed out hard copies of
everything in Outlook in case the worst happened, but now I can have a ready
backup. Thanks again!!

You are very welcome. News groups have saved many a person from having to
tear their hair out, commit hari kiri, ingest poison, beat their head
against the wall, etc. They are one of the few decent remaining good things
about the internet.
