background transparency problem

I'm a newbie. I've got two images with wavy, edged borders that blend into
white. When I set the transparency color for images to pure white (my blank
space on the page), and then set a background color, any white in the images
shows the background. And the edges go white that I want to blend into the
background color You can see what I'm talkin about at:

Or log into http://www.hdmnet.com/test/ and click on the only jpeg file
there.

How do I overcome these two problems. Thanks for the help!!!

I checked out the image, but I still don't know what you're asking. The URL
is simply a JPG image. No page, no background, no transparency.

Set this where? On the page?

..jpg does not support Transparency. Maybe that is the problem?

..jpg does not support transparency.
..gif does support transparency, but has a limited colour range (256
colours as opposed to over 65536[depending on monitor/video-card
settings] in .jpg), so gradients and blends will not be supported.
