Background for the text under desktop icons

I can figure out how to change the background color for
the text on my desktop icons. But what I really want is
a transparent background, so the WindowsXP wallpaper
shows through.

It's this way on a couple of my Windows XP machines, but
not on one and I can't figure out how to change it.

Thanks.

Right-click on My Computer and choose Properties. Select the Advanced tab.
Click the Settings button under Performance and place a checkmark in 'Use
drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop'.
