back up documents but won't recover

Please Help! I used the back up wizard in Window XP to back up all my
documents and settings before I did the system restore to the original
computer. Before I did the system restore, I first stored the backup file on
desktop. The next day I did the backup again and replace the existing backup
file on desktop to make sure I had the latest setting before I did the system
restore. I then copied the backup file onto the CD. The system restore was
successful. The recovery processed seemed working and it copied everything
on CD back to my computer but No documents (mostly Word document in 'My
Documents') was recovered. I wonder if the backup file only restore the
document only if there was no major system restore?

Did you tell the restore to overwrite any files that already exist? The
default is NOT to overwrite files the already exist. It may explain why you
only got your Word Documents, all the rest of the files, the OS, Program,
etc already existed, so it didn't overwrite them.
