avoid the high charges of cable $ 130.00 a month

right now I have my lap top Acer hooked up to my older TV with a little converter box and an S cable and I can watch movies from the internet, however if I purchase a new smart TV can I avoid the high charges of cable $ 130.00 a month verse inter net alone $30.00 a month , to my TV and just have internet to watch my programs on TV is this possible ?
