Avoid Circuit City

Did that piece of paper state that the price was guaranteed until
you decided to ever come back? I bet not.

I would venture a guess that your piece of paper was doing nothing
more than noting the model number and current price, that day.

I guess what I find missing, is a sense of being a reasonable person.
A reasonable person would realize that sale prices don't last forever,
and accept responsibility that it was they, and not CC, who screwed up
by waiting way too long.

This would be true for any store, not just CC. All stores have scheduled
end dates for sales (and in-store rebates). CC isn't a bad store, as you
seem to want us all to believe, just because their sales actually end
as they stated upfront.

Have ever worked retail? Thought not. Some sales dude made a mistake,
happens every day. You should have looked up the details of the rebate
yourself if it was so important to you - lesson learned. Or better yet,
don't patronize the big box stores at all and support your local mom'n'pop
computer retailer. You can get a level of service and expertise there that
it sounds like you need.

You're right, is not a bad store because the offer ended, is a bad store
because of bad service given by unmotivated, unprepared sales personnel,
period.

And, if the salesman told you that it was ok to come two days later and they
would honor the sale price, then that is just dishonest (or not being
honest, to say the least); he could have just told him "buy it now or loose
it" (or in a more decent way, "sorry, we can only guarantee this offer
today"), but he chose to say otherwise. If management condones this kind of
behavior, they are just plain supporting deceiving their customers.

I just bought a hard drive from Circuit City over the internet using my Visa
card and picked it up at the store. There was a store rebate and a
manufacture rebate, They did not subtract the store rebate from the cost,
was told to send in a copy of the product code from the box to Seagate and
they would send the rebate check. I got my rebate from Circuit City. Guess
what, Seagate they do not honor UPC copies with a sales slip. I called
Circuit City and was told it was my problem. I called up Seagate and they
said Circuit City rebate should have been taken off when I bought the
drive. No more ordering over the internet with Circuit City.

My 2 cents.

This is unbelievable. IMO, Avoid Circuit City at all costs after what they
just pulled on me.

They didn't pull anything on you. It's your job to know when the
rebate ends. It's not CC's job to babysit you, especially when you
wanted to go research an out of stock computer. What are they
supposed to do tell you not to because the rebate is over? Then you
would be accusing them of high pressure sales tactics.
I went in on Monday to buy an HP Notebook model ZX5160. They were offering
an additional $250 off and with a $100 rebate the price was $1199.

I saw their model ZX5040US for $199 after rebates. That has a dedicated
memory for the video and firewire. But it was out of stock and they didn't
know if any were coming in.

I specifically told the salesman that I'd be back Wednesday after
researching the 2nd computer.

So who gives a shit? Are they supposed to do something special for
you because you will be back Wednesday? Who the **** are you?
I show up this afternoon and the $250 Circuit City Rebate is gone. I'm told
it ended Sunday night. I asked him how,
by now tralking me into paying $1349 for the same computer I wanted to walk
out the door with on Monday?

So if the rebate ended Sunday what good was it for you to walk out the
door with it Monday when the rebate was already over? Please get your
head out of your ass!

P

Pokoho

I don't need the money. I have plenty as this $250 does not make or break
me. It is principle.

According to you, you went their on Monday when the rebate expired the
day before. Then you get pissed off because you came back Wednesday
and can't get the rebate that ended Sunday, a day before you initially
showed up. What a dope.

P

Pokoho

Sounds like you can't understand that the guy wrote the price with the
rebate down on a piece of paper on Monday. That would be 5/17/04 which is
greater than 5/16/04. Your point is demonsrtrably wrong.
Now, can you tell me why 911 is greater than 1066?

So the guy made a mistake that would have been caught had you
purchased on Monday. You would have went home to fill out the rebate
form (if they would even give you one since it expired at which time
you would have known) and found it expired the day before.

P

Pokoho

Well, they had the one I walked in to buy in stock and I took no note of
anything that I saw in the store stating it ended. My telling the salesman
that I'd be back in 2 days should have alreted him to saying that the sale
was/might be over.

At which point you would have bitched because you thought he was
pressuring you into buying before you could research an OUT OF STOCK
computer, like a ****ing idiot. I never heard of it being the
responsibity of the store reps to tell you when a rebate ends as you
are walking out of the store. Why should they give a shit if you get
the rebate or not? They are their to sell shit and not chase after
some assclown leaving the store.
date as the HP ones had dates. And I did not just click each computer once.
This has been a long process of researching which one to purchase.

So why should CC give a rats ass that it was a long process for you?
You ****ing lazy bastard.
I have written Circuit City online. I told them of the incident and that I
will gladly purchase it online [which I could have] if they make things
right. If they don't I'll just write a macro and post the message every few
weeks for a year. They will lose more in sales over this than any alledged
loss they take selling me it for $1199.

I will buy more from CC knowing that they treated you like the dumb
**** you are.

P

Pokoho

Well, I did work my way through college in one. And I know that back then,
if the customer was wronged you could do anything to complete the sale.
They chose not to.

The customer wasn't wronged. The customer was wrong.

P

Pokoho

I do agree, however, with the OPs original point. Circuit City could've
made this right so very easily, yet apparently doesn't care enough to do so.
Perhaps a blessing;

Made what right? The ****er comes in to buy a computer whos rebate
expired the day before. Had he tried to purchase the computer, he
would have found that out and could have stopped the sale or got an
immediate refund. Instead the dumb **** leaves to go research an out
of stock computer, that he was stupid enough to think might be back in
stock in two days, and when he comes back on Wednesday he could have
gotten the computer for the same price as Monday but wants the price
from the day before because the sales person didn't say the rebate was
over when the dumb **** was there Monday?

P

Pokoho

Despite the details you provided, my response remains unchanged. ACYA or
ACYOA. Verbal promises mean nothing in today's world, sad to say, in the
marketplace.

So in otherwords I should go to CC or Best Buy and buy a product and
then bitch because they didn't tell me that a rebate for the product
expired two years ago?

P

Pokoho

Most sales end on a Sunday. You should have grabbed it when you saw it.

It wouldn't have mattered. He wasn't there Sunday. He was there
Monday when the rebate or sale was already over. Yes the ****er would
have found this out had he tried to buy the computer then. Instead
the ****er goes on Monday for a rebate that expired the Sunday before
and then comes back Wednesday and wants the Sunday price. ****ing
idiot.

P

Pokoho

I kind of hard time following your story since you seem to be using
interchangeable the concept of a sale price and of a rebate.

However, basically, you went to CC to buy a computer. Once there,
you became uncertain of which model to get. So, you simply walked
out without buying anything.

You finally went back to CC after several days only to find out
that you waited too long. The sale/rebate ended as scheduled.

No, it's even better than that. The sale/rebate was already expired
the FIRST time he went to the store so he wouldn't have gotten the
lower price even if he did buy the first day he was there. He would
have found that out had he tried to buy. Instead he told the sales rep
he would be back Wednesday and is pissed because the sales rep didn't
tell him the rebate expire a day before he came the first time. The
****er is nuts.
Of course, you want to bully the CC manager into giving you
an exception. Basically, sales and rebates end as scheduled
for everyone except you, right? You walked out that first time
without buying anything, and you want to make that CC's fault.
I guess you feel that since you told CC "I'd be back Wednesday"
that you had "dibs" on the sale/rebates until then. However, just
how many people say "I'll be back" and never actually come back?
Matter of fact, I would think that a phrase like "I'll be back"
is like "I'll call you" or "Let's have lunch sometime". Just
a way to depart and leave someone. I would not fault the
salesperson for taking it to be a meaningless phrase that it is.

Sure, it would be nice if the CC manager made an exception for
you, and give you the sale price/rebate after they ended. However,
that doesn't make the manager, or CC, "bad" for not doing so.

It wouldn't be nice as it would set a precedent to let stupid people
rip off the company. It would be nice if they gave me a rebate that
expired two years ago to or refund the difference for a product I
bought two years ago that has since gone down in price.

P

Pokoho

And, if the salesman told you that it was ok to come two days later and they
would honor the sale price , then that is just dishonest (or not being
honest, to say the least);

He never said that you lying ****er. Mike W said he was pissed
because the guy didn't tell him the rebate ended a day before he
stepped foot in the store the first time.
he could have just told him "buy it now or loose
it" (or in a more decent way, "sorry, we can only guarantee this offer
today")

No he couldn't say that because the rebate expired THE DAY BEFORE YOU
DUMB ****ER!
but he chose to say otherwise. If management condones this kind of
behavior, they are just plain supporting deceiving their customers.

****ing idiot.

I just bought a hard drive from Circuit City over the internet using my Visa
card and picked it up at the store. There was a store rebate and a
manufacture rebate, They did not subtract the store rebate from the cost,

Normally this means you SEND in for a CC rebate and send in for a
Seagate rebate. Unless the web site said "instant rebate", it means
you must send in for it. Why should it have been subtracted?
was told to send in a copy of the product code from the box to Seagate and
they would send the rebate check. I got my rebate from Circuit City. Guess
what, Seagate they do not honor UPC copies with a sales slip.

You dumb ass. Didn't you read the goddamned rebate form? Why did you
listen to the store rep instead of reading the rebate form? You
should have made sure you have everything you need and that both
rebates don't require the same thing like original UPC which would
make one impossible to get.
I called
Circuit City and was told it was my problem.

No shit!
I called up Seagate and they
said Circuit City rebate should have been taken off when I bought the
drive.

No, you should have read the terms of the rebate.
No more ordering over the internet with Circuit City.

Thank god. They don't need stupid people hasseling them.

Regardless of your feelings:

You didn't pay for it when the offer was on. There was no agreement. You
haven't been screwed.

You HAVE been upset, but thats business.

If you can't get the machine you want, at the price you want, then go
elsewhere.

The big stores don't need you business, they simply don't care. If the
salesman was reading this thread he'd be thinking: "I'm sure glad I don't
have this whiney person to deal with when something goes wrong". The plain
fact of the matter is that nobody except you, cares.

Good luck in the big bad world...
