avi's on TV

Evan

I have an ati radeon 9800 pro 128mb video card, I use an
s-video cable to attach it to my tv, when i want to watch
an avi on my computer on my tv, it will not play.
Everything shows perfectly on the tv except the avi is
blacked out. ATI suggested using hydravision, but i
cannot figure out a way to use it to make it work. Is
there any person who is able to help me out here? I just
want to be able to watch avis on my tv. Any leads would
help, and any extra information needed I can easily give.

OK, let's start from the beginning.

Connect the TV to the PC via the S-Video cable and turn the TV on.

Now restart the PC. On startup, Windows should now recognize there is a TV
attached to it... no version of Windows can see a device that is turned off.

Now right click on the desktop and select Properties. In the Settings tab,
click on Advanced. Look for the Monitor tab. There is (or should be if you
have the right driver installed) an option to switch output from Monitor to
TV. Click it and now the PC should be outputting to TV instead of the
Monitor.

Remember that S-Video is video only. Audio will still emanate from the PC's
speakers unless you use line out on the soundcard and connect them to either
the TV or an audio system.
