AVI's NOD SHOWING VIDEO

Can someone help me with this problem? None of my media will play video on AVI programs. These include WMP, RealOnePlayer, QuickTime, & Divx.
They will play the audio, but not video. Sometimes they will show a codec problem but still play the audio. There are a few older AVI files that I have stored
in the past that the video still shows. Am I missing an update somewhere or a setting?
