avgcc.exe - Illegal System DLL Relocation With I open AVG Virus S/

hi

I have looked around all the differant fourms trying to fix this problem. I
am ranning the Free version of AVG-Anti Virus Software on my XP Pro SP 2
machine. then every time I log in or try and out the application I am getting
this error

The System DLL user32.dll was relocated in momory. The application with not
run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL
c:\WINDOWS\system32\SHELL32.dll occupoted an address range reserved for
windows sysyems DLLS.

The vendor supplying the DL should be contacted for a new DLL.

I have gone to AVG website and I can't find any referance to this.

I am update with all of microsofts patchs and hotfixs, can anyone out there
help me.

many thanks

which version of avg are you using?
if you are on the 7.0 version that one has been discontinued by Grifsoft
If you are then you need to download the newest version and follow the
instructions. When it goes into setup you need to click "repair" to
continue the installation

If you are on the newest version then try reinstalling the program getting
it from their website and see if that takes care of the problem

If this issue is occuring just since Tuesday or later, and you have the
critical patch distributed Tuesday in place, I would recommend calling 1-866
pcsafety if you are in the US or Canada, and talking to Microsoft PSS staff
about this issue. Aternatively, follow the KB article Robinb has posted-I
do think that the hotfix connected with that article would be worth trying.

I just did a scan with AVG Free with no threats found but these were found:
File - Result/Infection - Path
user32.dll - changed- C:\Windows\System32\User32.dll
ntoskml.exe- changed- C:\Windows\System32\ntoskml.exe
When i r/click on these a (whats this) shows up saying This box displays
infected
files detected during the test. Looking for some answers if possible.
Thanks Ron

Ron, my AVG scan came up with the user32.dll change too - I presume just a
result of the recent Windows update. (I didn't get the ntoskrnl.exe change
though.)

btw on my avg free i saw the exact changes in avg scan after I did the new
ms patch

and the box is not just for "infected files but for changes that were made
to those dlls- which means it changed since last scan and doesn't mean they
are infected.
If they were infected AVG would pop up a box or it would say "infected"

Are you running CrystalXP and any of their Brico packs (graphical
"enhancements")?

HI bob

the answer to that question is yes I am ranning a Brico Pack on my
machine.

That's the problem and it isn't Microsoft's or Grisoft's problem to fix,
though I haven't seen an acknowledgement of that fact from Crystal XP.

I just looked through the obvious relevant thread at their support site.
Lots of heat, no light that I could spot.

There are 6 or 7 threads at dslreports concerning the update. Everyone that
had problems with AVG was running Brico packs. Remarkably, some have chosen
to retain the Brico pack and forego the update.

This is probably predictable. I don't know what these things (Brico packs)
cost, if anything, but they are clearly "cool," and a matter of the users
choice---so they've got some investment in them, cash, or otherwise.
Microsoft is the bad guy--how could they do this to us? In this situation
it'll take real moral rectitude for the vendor to own up to the fact that
their code has a flaw in it.

There are three elements to the situation, the update, AVG, and Brico packs.
Pick any two and there are no symptoms. It's almost inevitable that there
would be circular finger pointing. Due to the nature of the Brico packs,
that's where I choose to point my finger.<g>

Is c:\WINDOWS\system32\SHELL32.dll part of the Brico pack or is it from
Microsoft?
