AVG software not updating

I have been using AVG antivirus software for years with great success ,
however about a week it started not being able to update new virus protection
files. I looked everywhere possible for answers and cannot find anything. If
any one knows a remedy it would be greatly appreciated. I'm assuming it must
have to do with a recent update from Microsoft. I am using Windows XP sp2.

First, make sure you're using the latest supported version, and if you can't
find anything regarding your error messages in a google search, I'd check to
see if there's an AVG support forum. I use AVG free edition in a couple of
places and am not seeing this problem.

If it's the free version, AVG has forums for support. If it's a paid
version, they offer email support.

Thank you for your quick response, however I did try to find something on
their website. But not helpful.

But, did you actually use the forum and ask your question there?

You need to use the forum there...ask your question on the AVG Free forum.

I also use the AVG free version (7.5) in a couple of places and have not
experienced any problems. You might try uninstalling and reinstalling it.

solution is simple
download new free version, do not install
turn off internet access
then uninstall current Avg version
rboot
then install the newly downloaded version
and update

You can always go to the AVG website and download the updates manually to
your system. Then run the update inside AVG specifying the manually
downloaded updates as the input source. I have not have this problem with my
installation of AVG Free edition.
